This COE 96 butterfly glass precut set for fusing includes one detailed black glass outline and one matching clear glass blank. Measuring approximately 5 inches wide by 4 inches tall, the two-piece butterfly can be decorated with glass enamel, transparent frit or your preferred COE 96-compatible materials. Use the completed butterfly to create fused glass garden art, a plant stake, window hanging, suncatcher, wall décor or handmade gift.
Please note: This listing includes one unfired black butterfly outline and one matching clear glass blank. Finished butterflies shown in the photos are project examples and are not included.
Many Ways to Create Your Butterfly
There is no single way to finish your butterfly. Use the clear blank and black outline as a starting point, then choose the colours, materials and techniques that suit your fused glass style.
Paint the Clear Glass Blank
Apply COE 96-compatible glass enamel to the clear butterfly blank using an airbrush or paintbrush. Once decorated, position the black butterfly outline over the painted blank before firing to create a clean, defined design.

Fill the Open Sections with Frit
Place the black butterfly outline over the clear glass blank, then add transparent COE 96 frit or small pieces of compatible glass within the open sections of the wings.
The black outline helps separate the colours and gives the finished butterfly crisp, recognizable details.
Create Your Own Design
Decorate the butterfly using your preferred COE 96-compatible glass materials and techniques. Add murrini, stringers, dichroic accents, glass dots, small pieces of glass or other embellishments to create a butterfly that is entirely your own.
Keep the design simple or add layers of colour, pattern and texture. The clear blank and black outline provide a versatile base for experimenting with different fused glass finishes.

Glass Compatibility
This butterfly set is cut from COE 96 compatible fusible glass. Use it with COE 96 frit, sheet glass and other compatible glass-fusing materials.
Firing Your Butterfly
I fire these butterflies to approximately 1350°F (730°C) to create a tack-fused finish that preserves the raised black outline and some of the texture within the design.
Every kiln fires differently, and results may vary depending on the glass, project thickness, firing speed and desired finish. Use my Fused Glass Tack Fuse Schedule for COE 90 and COE 96 as a starting point and adjust the schedule as needed for your own kiln.
Turn It into a Garden Stake
Turn the finished butterfly into fused glass garden art by adding an optional package of five small TriAngle Stake Mounts to your order.
Choose the mount opening that matches the metal rod or wooden dowel you plan to use:
- 1/8-inch opening
- 3/16-inch opening
Each small TriAngle Stake Mount can hold the finished butterfly in one of three display positions: 0°, 45° or 90°. This allows you to display it facing upward, at an angle or vertically in a garden, planter or flowerpot.
The optional upgrade includes one package of five small TriAngle Stake Mounts. Metal stakes, rods, wooden dowels and adhesive are not included.
See the TriAngle Stake Mount garden art tutorial for mounting instructions and display examples.
